Now in its 3rd year, we have seen so many lives changed because of this contest. We have people who are down 20, 30, 50, 100 pounds & even more! The goal is to increase awareness of health & fitness. ARE YOU NEXT?
One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is to lose weight – but it’s a resolution difficult to keep because, for many, finding the motivation to get started can be quite challenging. But motivation shouldn’t be an issue in 2013 thanks to The Star-Herald’s newly redesigned “Get Fit Challenge,” an annual weight loss contest that will feature a prize pool of over $3,000! Contestants this year will compete as teams of 2 individuals instead of the 4 person teams the year before. The teams that achieve the highest percentage of total weight lost over a 12-week period will receive cash prizes. Two individuals, one male and one female, will also be awarded a cash prize for having achieved the highest percentage of personal weight loss. Competing teams will battle to see which team can lose the largest percentage of total weight – not necessarily the most pounds. Each participating team will be weighed at the beginning of the contest and then again at the end of the 12-week program with several “surprise” optional weigh-ins through out the contest. There are tools & people out there that can help! Sometimes people just don’t know where to start. That is why we are hosting the Get Fit Challenge Health Fair, Saturday Jan 5th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Valley Event Center. This is where contestants can do their initial weigh-in and gather information from regional health providers, dietitians and local gyms, plus get discounts on all things exercise & fitness. If contestants do not do their initial weigh-in at the Health Fair, they may weigh-in at any of the sponsor locations at the designated times. Teams can register by going to our registration page or by completing the coupon in a given day’s newspaper and dropping it off at the Star-Herald offices at 1405 Broadway in Scottsbluff. The registration fee remains $40 per team. If your team doesn’t register, you can still come at any of the weigh-in times. At that time, the registration fee will be $50 per team. Each team must consist of 2 individuals, and each team must have a team name. Teams can consist of all male or female members, or of both male and female contestants. Contestants can be any age. As has been the case in previous contests, all individual weights will remain confidential. Only team weights will be used during the contest. The teams who achieve the highest percentage of weight lost will be awarded $1,000. Second place will win $500, 3rd will win $250, 4th will win $150 & 5th will win $100. Questions? Comments?
